FBDown is a simple Facebook video downloader that turns a public FB link into a regular MP4 file you can keep. You copy the link, paste it in the box above and choose the quality. That’s the whole thing. No extension, no app from an unknown store, no account to create.
We built it with one priority: HD video. A lot of FB video downloader sites quietly hand you the 360p version because it is easier to fetch. FBDown asks Facebook for every rendition the post has and puts the sharpest one (usually 720p or 1080p) at the top, labelled clearly, so you don’t have to guess.
How to download Facebook videos in HD
The process takes less than a minute and works the same on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac.
1. Copy the Facebook video link
Open the video in the Facebook app or on facebook.com. Tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer you can also right-click the video’s timestamp or copy the address from the browser bar. Links that look like facebook.com/watch?v=…, fb.watch/…, facebook.com/reel/… or facebook.com/share/v/… all work.
2. Paste it into FBDown
Come back to this page and paste the link into the box at the top. On a phone, the Paste button does it in one tap. Press Download.
3. Choose HD or SD and save
After a few seconds you’ll see the video’s cover, its title and the available qualities. Tap Download HD for the best picture, or SD if you want a smaller file to save mobile data. The MP4 is saved straight to your device.
What you can download
FBDown handles almost every type of public video on Facebook:
- Regular feed videos from pages, creators and public profiles.
- Facebook Watch videos and shows.
- Facebook Reels – short vertical videos (there is also a dedicated Facebook Reels downloader).
- Public Stories that are still live (see the Facebook Story downloader).
- Ended live streams saved as replays on public pages.
- Videos in public groups that anyone can view without joining.
If you only need the sound – a song, a speech, a podcast clip – use the Facebook to MP3 converter. And for Reels, posts and IGTV from Instagram, there is a separate Instagram video downloader.
HD, SD and file size: what the labels mean
Facebook stores most videos in more than one quality. Here is what you’ll usually see:
| Label | Typical resolution | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| HD | 720p or 1080p | Watching on a laptop, TV or tablet, editing, archiving |
| SD | 360p to 480p | Saving data, sending on WhatsApp, older phones |
| MP3 | Audio only | Music, talks, podcasts |
A one-minute HD video is usually between 8 and 20 MB. The same clip in SD is around 3 to 6 MB. FBDown shows HD first because, once the original post is gone, you can’t get the higher quality back.
One honest note: we can’t add pixels that were never there. If someone uploaded a blurry 480p clip, the HD button won’t appear, because Facebook doesn’t have an HD copy of it.
Downloading on different devices
Android. Chrome and Samsung Internet save the file to Downloads. Open it from the notification or from the Files app, and it will also show up in your gallery.
iPhone and iPad. Use Safari (iOS 13 or newer). When the download finishes, tap the blue arrow in the address bar, open the video and tap Share → Save Video to put it in Photos. If a video only opens in a player, press and hold it and choose Download Linked File.
Windows, Mac and Linux. Any modern browser works. The file lands in your Downloads folder and plays in VLC, QuickTime, the Windows Media Player or directly in the browser.
Why people use a Facebook video downloader
Facebook isn’t built for offline viewing. Videos disappear when a page deletes them, connections drop on the train, and the in-app “Save” button only bookmarks a link – it doesn’t save the actual file. People use FBDown to:
- Keep their own live streams, Reels and uploads as a backup.
- Watch tutorials, recipes and lectures offline while travelling.
- Save a family clip a relative posted publicly before it gets removed.
- Collect reference material for school or work, with permission.
- Move their own content to another platform without losing quality.
Is it safe?
FBDown runs fully on the web. There is nothing to install, we don’t ask for your Facebook login, and we never see your account. The page uses HTTPS, the files come from Facebook’s own video servers, and nothing is stored on our side after your download finishes. We don’t use pop-up redirects that hijack the download button.
The one thing you should keep in mind is whose video it is. Saving a public clip to watch later is one thing; re-uploading another creator’s work as your own is something else, and it can lead to copyright strikes. When in doubt, ask the creator.
Common problems and quick fixes
“Couldn’t find a video.” Make sure you copied the link to the video itself, not to the page or the profile. Opening the video full-screen and copying the link from there usually solves it.
“This video is private.” The post is limited to friends, a closed group or a specific audience. Only public videos can be downloaded.
The download opens in a new tab instead of saving. This happens on some desktop browsers. Right-click the video and choose Save video as, or press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on Mac).
No sound in the file. Very rarely Facebook stores sound separately for a quality. Try the other quality button; FBDown marks the version that has audio included.
The link expired. Download links from Facebook are temporary. If you waited a long time, just paste the original link again and press Download.
Why FBDown and not another site
There are dozens of FB downloaders. Most were built ten years ago and still behave like it: three ads before the button, a fake “Download” that opens a new tab, and HD hidden behind a “premium” label. We wanted the opposite – a clean page that does one job well, puts HD first, works in six languages (English, Español, Português, Bahasa Indonesia, हिन्दी and العربية) and loads fast on a cheap phone with a weak signal.
